The second-best thing about solar is the maintenance…there is none. I have the responsibility of filling out a number of our customer’s Project Performance Reports (the end of the year reporting that goes along with obtaining a REAP Grant). This paperwork consists of information fields aimed to gauge the effectiveness of the project and the grant money (e.g. system size, production, grant amount, etc.). One of the fields is always an easy answer: “Summary of Cost of operating and maintaining the facility.” This is because there is no regular maintenance needed for a Solar PV System. There are no employees or family members designated to caring for the system. So, when I see that field, “Summary of Cost of operating and maintaining the facility,” I get to put “none” and move right along.
Now, some people may not see the value in that, but the people I run into everyday do not want another chore in a world of responsibility. So many money-making projects take a lot of effort, and every other electric generator needs regular care and maintenance. Solar is a worry-free project that will save money without adding another responsibility to you or your business. So when I see that field, “Summary of Cost of operating and maintaining the facility,” I just smile…because, that is the second-best thing about solar. The best thing about solar is, of course, the amount of money you will save!
